The lake

A former sand pit,
at Passy.

A sand pit worked more than fifty years ago, tucked away in open countryside in a quiet, unspoilt setting, Heritage Mystère covers ten hectares, six of them water.

Depths of two to three metres, and a bed that alternates silt, hard sand and patches of stone, make for varied fishing. Crayfish, mussels, swan mussels and shellfish are there in quantity: a natural larder that pushes the fish on.

For families and guests, there are plenty of walks and things for children to do around the lake and nearby.

The fishing is done from the bank, with a bait boat or from the boat, depending on the peg.

This is a venue in its own right, separate from Heritage Carp Fishing, with its own pegs and its own stock. It can also be hired exclusively, for up to ten anglers.

The stock

The pleasure of the unknown.

Heritage Mystère opens its gates without revealing a single fish of its stock: here every run can hold a surprise, and every catch uncovers another mystery fish. A hundred or so fish have already been put in, on top of all the original fish that have been there for many years — their number, their weights and the specimens among them entirely unknown. As at Heritage Carp Fishing, every fish caught is PIT-tagged and recorded: you are handed a reader when you arrive, and at the weighing you find out exactly which fish you are holding and at what weight. The story of Heritage Mystère is yours to write, fish by fish.
